Turmeric Paste for a Golden Milk Latte

Whether you are a coffee or tea drinker, everyone can benefit from a morning elixir once in a while. This golden milk latte is a delightful change from your usual caffeinated beverage; creamy yet not overly stimulating. Instead this latte is packed with healing properties thanks to our golden ingredient: turmeric. This paste is easy to make ahead of time and quickly mix up in the morning.

So if you’d just like to incorporate more turmeric into your diet, and lattes are not your thing, this paste is a great way to do it. Add to your morning porridge, oatmeal, smoothie, or vegetables to benefit from this ancient healing spice. Make no mistake, however, this turmeric paste is carefully crafted so that your body can absorb it the best. The black pepper, ginger, and coconut oil are all very important elements to include which help your body absorb the turmeric. Cinnamon is added because it tastes delicious and pairs wonderfully with it’s golden friend.

You Will Need

for the paste:

1/4 c turmeric powder

3/4 c water

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp freshly grated ginger

1 tsp black pepper

1 heaping tsp coconut oil

for the golden milk latte

1 heaping tsp paste

1 cup milk of choice – if the milk is too creamy, cut it with some water.

What to Do

I. To make the paste, begin by bringing the water to a boil in a small saucepan.

II. Add your turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, and coconut oil and mix. Simmer for 5-10 minutes or until it has thickened nicely. Remove from heat and store in the fridge.

III. When you are ready to make golden milk, simply heat up 1 cup of milk in a saucepan (or 1/2 cup of milk and 1/2 cup of water depending on how creamy you like it).

IV. When your milk is hot, but not boiling, add 1 heaping teaspoon of your pre-made paste. Mix until well incorporated, remove from heat and serve in your favorite mug.
